Kataraina comes to the Mavis McMullen Housing Society Board of Director's with a strong background in community-centred development and Indigenous policy at the Government level. She is Indigenous Māori from New Zealand and moved to live on the traditional territories of the Coast Salish Peoples in 2023 to work as a Consultant on First Nations policy and capacity development projects. Kataraina has worked on issues related to equity, housing security, and social impact, with a focus on advancing inclusive and culturally-informed approaches. Kataraina believes the provision of affordable, safe, and dignified housing has the power to change intergenerational outcomes, and she is dedicated to contributing strategic insight, collaborative leadership, and a people-centred perspective to the Board’s work.
